Experienced secondary science teacher offering KS3, GCSE and A Level tuition in the sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
I am a secondary science teacher and a Teach First ambassador with 5 years teaching experience up to A Level. I have a masters degree in Natural Sciences (Biology and Chemistry) from Durham University and have worked as a management consultant in between my time as a teacher. I have extensive experience working with UK students and the science curriculum here up to A Level. I achieved A grades in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Music at A level and have a proven track record of accelerated progress with the GCSE and A level students I have taught. I am currently available to teach GCSE students for all three sciences (including separate award/triple science) and first year sixth from students Biology and Chemistry. Until further notice all tuition will be delivered virtually via either Zoom or Microsoft Teams due to my local area being under COVID restrictions.
I am a secondary science teacher now into my fifth year in the classroom. I have taught all three sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) to GCSE and Biology and Chemistry to A Level. I have GCSE and A Level Biology and Chemistry tutors at present.
My teaching methodology is informed by cognitive science research and involves explicit teacher led instruction followed by consistent retrieval practice to promote long term memory acquisition. I focus on a knowledge rich curriculum and will provide opportunities for repeated practice to consolidate learning.
I have taught to AQA and Edexcel at GCSE (both combined and triple/separate award) and AQA and OCR at A Level but would feel comfortable teaching any exam board up to A Level. I do not have experience with IB and would not offer my tutoring to IB students.
The last cohort of GCSE students I have taught went on to achieve on average +1.2 grades higher than their targets. This places the cohort well above national average. The classes I teach in school are high ability groups with attainment at grades 7-9 being most common.
