Hello, I am Ivana, a final-year medical student. I have a degree in Applied Medical Sciences BSc (Hons) from Swansea University, in addition to Access to medicine from Manchester college City labs(Distinction). My interest in tutoring emerged during group studies where, on a weekly basis, we, individually present topics and explain them to our colleagues. The compliments I received at the end of each of my sessions have encouraged me to explore more my highly-skilled way of making the topics enjoyable and understandable. As students, sometimes, we tend to overcomplicate things. Hence, my tutoring style is appreciated because I use different methods, with students' consent, to help retrieve the important details that will eventually put all the pieces together.

I have experience tutoring GCSEs and A levels(mainly Biology). I understand the importance of clearly explaining the content to the students. However, when that is combined with the visual learning and other methods I use, the retrieval of information is astounding. My passion and curiosity for science have made me feel comfortable explaining it to others. In addition, I can also tutor at the university level subjects such as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and body systems including circulatory, digestive and respiratory systems. I have also provided guidance to two students writing their personal statements. I discussed with them the important details that must be on the personal statements in order to stand out as well as the structure. Both have gained a place at university and are currently studying for nursing degrees. I was a professional interpreter and I had the opportunity to work in different settings including NHS. For this reason, I also have the skills required to help English speakers interested in learning Portuguese or vice-versa.

I treat each student as an individual and adapt the tutoring session accordingly. I would, first of all, speak with my students and see what are their strengths and weaknesses. I would ensure that not only their weaknesses are worked on but also their strengths are explored further. We all learn differently, hence the importance of taking the time to know the students before proceeding.

I have experience with both AQA and Edexcel as I have sat their exams.

The most remarkable success story was a girl that was studying GCSEs.She loved chemistry and physics and disliked and was struggling with biology. She was not as motivated to study biology as she was with the other two subjects. I managed to, somehow, helped her to see the interesting aspect of biology and she managed to get B at the end of it.
