After graduating, I did my masters degree I did research in Civil Engineering. This was like an elaborate GCSE investigation as I was testing lots of different building materials for their defensive capabilities. I trained as a secondary Science teacher and worked as a full-time Science teacher for two years. Since then I have also done supply work. I have worked as a tutor for 15 years. More recently I was a tutor at various schools working in Secondary Science as well as Primary Maths and English. I am a lifelong learner and enjoy keeping up to date with the latest science and technology. I have several hobbies including 3d printing and making objects from composite materials.
I tutored for several years before becoming a teacher. I taught Physics at GCSE and A level. Although mainly classroom teaching, I held many extra tuition sessions for my students. I also tutored adults with mental health needs and learning disabilities for 15 years and worked as a supply teacher. Since 2018 I have also tutored small groups for secondary science and also primary maths. I have been a tutor with Tutorspot from 2020 to 2024 tutoring KS3 and GCSE maths and science. I had a break in 2023 but have been tutoring with tutorspot as my main area of work with regular students between July 2023 and October 2024.
We start by getting to know each other and look at potential learning materials and examples of what can be achieved. We then plan a learning framework enable you to maximise your time and effort. I take a bespoke holistic approach to empower you to achieve your learning and other goals. We look at past papers and other real-world ways of assessing your skills and knowledge. I aim to inspire you to work hard to root out any weak areas and excel in your field of study. Lessons take place in the Tutorspot online classroom. I have a fast PC with high-speed broadband and a large graphics tablet and monitor dedicated to tuition and keep a library of digital resources. I am flexible and can work with material given to me by schools, parents or students but usually create my own resources and tweak lesson materials just before each lesson so I can tailor them to your specific needs. I can give homework on request. At the end of every lesson the student get's sent lesson notes in workspaces on Tutorspot. A report is also completed on Tutorspot I am currently only tutoring online.
I am an examiner for one exam board but cannot say which one for contractual reasons. I have done this for over 20 years. I spend many hours marking responses each year on both Physics papers. I have an very good record in marking accurately in agreement with checks by senior colleagues. I consider this a considerable strength when tutoring as I have built an insight into both what examiners are looking for and the strengths and weaknesses of students responses. I have tutored both the AQA and Edexcel syllabus for Combined Science and individual sciences and Maths.
I have had very good feedback from students and parents about my teaching style, flexibility and choice of materials when preparing lessons Some students have remained with me across multiple academic years and have achieved excellent exam grades at GCSE. Those students who I tutor for the final year of GCSE have improved their grades and become more skilled and confident talking about science and maths.
