Hello! I am Sineaha, a medical student, and am offering lessons in Maths, English and Science at KS1, KS2, KS3 and GCSE Level. I also teach 11+ entrance exams! I am so excited to be joining Tutorspot
As a medical student, I really love Science and enjoy teaching it. My passion has always been to learn about the human body and how it works. However, my favourite subject at school was Maths and I have always enjoyed reading. This has made me very confident in teaching English, Maths and Sciences!
I have tutored for 4 years now in these 3 subjects, and I believe what makes my teaching style different is that my experience has allowed me to really cater each lesson to a student's particular needs. I am very flexible in what I teach and believe in ensuring that my student understands what I have taught already before moving onto a new topic, as this can easily create confusion. I arrive to every lesson with a clear plan and enthusiasm which I hope my students feel.
In summary, I begin the lesson with a quick warmup question of either a previously learnt topic or an introduction to the topic I will begin to teach. Then, I will teach the basics of a new topic by working through a simple question and showing a clear method. I will repeat this a few more times until I believe my student can give it a go. I will always give plenty of guidance and happily answer any questions they may have as I know how foreign some topics can feel at first. I will give some progressively harder questions if I feel this is suitable, and finish off the lesson with a review of what we have learnt and clear up any queries. As it progresses closer to the exam, I will start to give my student a variety of questions to complete in a sort of 'mock exam' environment if this is what the student wishes for.
One particular student who stands out to me as improving dramatically after I began teaching her was initially very unconfident in her Maths skills. When I began teaching her in January she was consistently getting grade 3 with a target of 6 so she could study Maths at A Level and fulfil her dream of becoming an architect. After many lessons and lots of encouragement, she went on to achieve a level 7. Although I have many similar stories of other students like this, she stands out to me because I could feel that my encouragement really helped her to build confidence in her own abilities.
