A committed GCSE and A-Level mathematics tutor who specialises in making complex ideas easy to understand, building student confidence in maths
Hello! My name is Rowan and I am currently a second year mechanical engineering student. With over three years of experience tutoring both one-on-one and with a tutoring company, I've helped students grow in confidence and achieve strong results in maths and science at both GCSE and A-Level. I'm passionate about breaking down complex concepts into simple, understandable steps, and I'm committed to creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring ideas. My goal is not just to help students pass their exams, but to spark genuine interest and confidence in what they are studying - and show that with the right approach, anyone can succeed in maths.
I have been tutoring for the last three years and offer one-to-one online lessons with Tutorspot. Through tutoring, I gained experience of a wide range of students, abilities, and learning styles enabling me to adapt my teaching methods to suit the individual needs of each learner. I have worked with students aiming for top grades as well as those aiming to build stronger foundations in their chosen subject, identifying gaps in knowledge, boosting confidence, and building long-term study skills. Working on building exam skills is also a key aim of mine, I place strong emphasis on exam technique, time management, and how to approach different types of questions to prepare students as well as possible for exams.
During my lessons, I focus on tailoring each session to the student’s individual goals, current ability level, and learning style. I begin by identifying key areas that need attention usually through diagnostic questions, reviewing past work, or discussing challenges with the student. Using this information, I am then able to build confidence and understanding of the chosen topic. We will then continue to review these topics at regular intervals to strengthen student confidence. Each session has a clear objective, with a mix of explanation, worked examples, and guided practice to reinforce understanding. For those students working towards sets of exams, a key focus will be working through past exam papers and getting as much practice as possible. Students are also always welcome to voice any areas they would like to spend longer on.
Whilst I am able to help with any GCSE exam boards, for A-level Mathematics, I am most familiar with AQA.
