Medical student teaching sciences up to A level
My name is Max and I am a 2nd year medical student studying at university. My specific interests lie in biology and chemistry with biology being my favourite subject. During school I learnt that the best way to learn the content is to understand it rather than rely on memory alone and regurgitating information. I apply this now in my studies when learning about patient cases. I enjoy mentoring and tutoring because I have seen first hand just how helpful it can be in helping students to be their best.
In the past I have tutored in both small group and one to one sessions. During secondary school I helped in running a biology revision session in the mornings before class for GCSE students, and now in University I occasionally help in creating and presenting revision material to the year below.
In lessons I have done in the past I try to put an emphasis on what the student feels they struggle with. Sometimes this is through a mini assessment, or if the student comes to me directly with some questions they don't understand or a particular topic. Once I have an idea of what the student needs to focus on future sessions will focus on going through the content that needs clarification, and understanding the core science. Once this is done I like to use a bank of several questions to see if you can apply what we have covered.
I am familiar with Edexcel for GCSE science and A level Chemistry. For biology A level I used OCR. I have completed exam style questions from most exam boards so am also aware of some of the differences in course content.
I have received positive feedback from most of my students in the past. In particular my mentoring in GCSE biology, which got the attention and thanks of the head of the biology department.
