Hello my name is Marian and I'm excited to meet you, I can tutor English, Science and Maths from KS1 - GCSE level
I truly value education and I love the idea of helping people through their journey of learning at school. From someone who has managed to do well from the Primary school to Sixth Form, I have learned that doing well generally stems from not just working hard but studying in a way that is efficient and finding ways to enjoy what you study. Tutoring has greatly helped me in my time, and I would love to pass all the skills I have learned to others, so they can do well too! I am someone , who is fascinated in learning how people think and learn. Currently, I am studying Chemical Engineering(Meng)
From my personal experiences in being tutored, I have come to learn that it essential to understand how a student thinks and makes links, so I make sure that my students first and foremost understand the fundamental principles of the topic they are learning. Moreover, I try to explain things in as much detail as I can. It is vital that I understand how my student feels about what they are being taught, so I constantly ask questions and feedback to make the student’s learning experience is as great as possible. Please don't be shy, I use various methods of teaching to teach my students, if you do not like something state this to me in the lesson. I am a patient person, who truly cares about my students and appreciates the fact that different people learn things at different speeds and in different ways, hence why I constantly adapt my style to tailor the needs of my student. However, tutoring is a two-way effort and students must understand, that if they want to get the best grades, they must work hard to achieve this.
What I learned from my experiences in school, is that school is about passing the exams you take. Hence, why I structure my lessons around exam questions. To be more specific, I try to break down exam questions by going over content and linking content to exam questions. I generally like to pre-plan lessons. Students need to tell me what they want to learn before the lessons, so I can get specific questions that we can go through. I prefer if you send me a topic list of what you are covering during the different terms, so you can stay on top of what you need to know at school .However, if you have a queries, such an upcoming assessment, please tell me at least a day before I can make that priority of our lessons. I would not want to overload students however I may set a few follow-up questions or a challenging question or perhaps an exam if its closer to exams season as homework.
Being specific to your exam board's specification is vital for getting the highest grades, so you must inform me of your specification before our initial session. For English language and Science, at Gcse level, I teach only AQA. For Math, I mainly teach Edexcel and sometimes Aqa and OCR.
I have been a tutor for over4 years. My students have been happy to see an improvement in not just their grades, but their ability and confidence when it comes to the subject they are being tutored in. One of my most recent students, who I tutored for English Language, had a starting grade of grade 5 and ended up achieving a grade 9. Also, she began with a starting grade in chemistry of grade 6 and achieved a grade 8 in her GCSEs. Most students I have tutored have gone to achieve between 7-9 grades in their GCSEs
