Hi! I'm Joe, I am a PhD Student researching grassland ecology. I have a 1st Class Bachelors Degree in Biology from Oxford University, a Masters in Plant and Fungal Taxonomy and am experienced in tutoring Biology and Chemistry at varying levels. Outside of teaching and research, I am a keen cook, traveler and hiker - any opportunity to get out and look at some plants! Feel free to reach out to me, I can help your child/you get to grips with the core topics on the syllabus, feel more confident with answering questions under exam conditions and understand how science can be applied out in the real world.

I have experience tutoring Biology and Chemistry GCSE and iGCSE as well as Biology A level in two countries. Having previously done tutoring in China, I am familiar with teaching students for whom English is not their first language and understand the difficulties that the specifics of terminology some boards can require can bring, especially in Biology. I also have considerable experience teaching lab and fieldwork practicals in Biology and Biochemistry, so am able to provide assistance in preparations for practical coursework.

My lesson planning is designed around each student to make sure they get the most out of the tuition. Before the first lesson, I will get to know their strengths and what areas they struggle with or find more difficult, as well as what teaching styles work for them. I can then build lessons around that, initially focusing on core concepts and terminology to build a foundation of understanding for the topic, but always ending each lesson with an exam question or two and going through the mark scheme, to ensure the student is confident taking the knowledge they have learned and applying it under exam conditions.

I am familiar with most common exam boards - AQA, Edexcel, OCR and iGCSE, and am happy to research other exam boards ahead of time to make sure I cover everything they need.
