Qualified KS3 and GCSE Science Teacher and Tutor with 20+ years experience teaching in both state and Independent schools. Also examiner for a number of boards. Very professional tutor.
Hello, I’m Alison. I teach all sciences to KS3 and KS4 including GCSE, IGCSE and IB. I am a fully qualified science teacher and former research scientist with QTS educated to doctoral level. I have over 20 years experience of teaching and tutoring working in state and independent schools and 6th form colleges in the UK and overseas. I have had a number of roles in education, including management roles. Since September 2018 I have been a full time science tutor. I am also an examiner for a number of exam boards. I take a professional attitude to my tutoring work and aim to instil a love of science and love of learning into my tutees. I am passionate about science and consider myself to be a scientist and an educator. I enjoy tutoring and find it a very rewarding profession. My approach to tutoring is to encourage learners to question and I use past exam papers in every session, not only to consolidate the learning but also to help prepare leaners for their final exams.
I have been a full time tutor since September 2018, teaching over 60 students. I have extensive tutoring experience during my time in secondary and post 16 education, having run 1:1 and small group support, revision and tutorial sessions. During my time in academia I tutored undergraduate students as well as mentoring and supervising Masters and PhD students.
I plan each student's lesson individually and each session is tailored to the individual student's needs and the outcomes they and their parents would like. I encourage questioning and desire to instil a love of science and learning. I have experience of all the exam boards and use the specifications in lesson planning. Each session I also use exam questions to consolidate the learning and to develop examination technique.
I have marked GCSE, International GCSE and A level exams for OCR, AQA and Edexcel.
My students always met their set goals with the majority of my students exceeding, often far exceeding, their goals. As an example I started teaching an A level student at the beginning of the academic year who was working at an E level. She is now predicted to achieve an A. All of my GCSE students were awarded at least level 6 in the summer 2021 exam, with the majority achieving 7-9. Many of these students were predicted grades 3 or 4 before tutoring commence. I receive excellent feedback for both students and parents.
