MSc in Mechanical Engineering, dedicated STEM tutor with over 6+ years of experience from 11+ to GCSE level, offering one to one online lessons for KS3 Maths, biology, Chemistry and Physics, as well as GCSE Maths and Physics and A level Maths
I help students gain confidence in Maths and Physics by simplifying complex ideas into clear, structured steps. I also have extensive experience tutoring for the 11+, covering Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, English, and Maths.
With over six years of tutoring experience, I’ve worked with students preparing for both the 11+ and GCSE exams, helping them build confidence, improve results, and develop a genuine interest in learning. I take a flexible and highly individualised approach, adapting each lesson to how a student learns best, whether that’s through visual explanations, guided practice, or interactive problem-solving. My goal is to make even the most challenging topics feel approachable and achievable, breaking them down into clear, manageable steps that empower students to think independently. I believe that confidence is the foundation of progress. That’s why I focus not only on academic skills but also on fostering a positive mindset toward learning. I create a calm, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and exploring ideas without fear of judgment. Over the years, I’ve seen how this approach helps students develop resilience, curiosity, and a sense of pride in their own growth where these skills that extend far beyond exams. Subsequently, the exams are also my priotity and my aim is to give my students the best chance of success for their future with the best grades they can attain. I’ve guided students through a wide range of goals, from building strong foundational skills to achieving top marks and securing places at selective schools. Each success reinforces my belief that with the right support and approach, every student is capable of excelling and discovering the joy of learning.
In the first lesson, I focus on getting to know the student, understanding their goals, learning style, and current level of confidence across different topics. I aim to create a relaxed, supportive atmosphere from the start, so the session feels encouraging rather than stressful. To gain a clear picture of their strengths and areas for improvement, I provide a thoughtfully designed initial assessment that helps me gauge their current ability and establish a solid starting point. From there, we work together to create a personalised plan or checklist of topics to cover. Each lesson focuses on one or two key areas (depending on the student’s ability and pace), using a mix of clear explanations, guided practice, and carefully selected questions to deepen understanding. When time allows, I like to end lessons with a short quiz or a five-minute learning game, a fun, low-pressure way to reinforce new concepts. I also set homework after each session that aligns with what we’ve covered, along with a few challenge questions to stretch critical thinking and prepare for the next lesson. This structured yet flexible approach ensures consistent progress while keeping learning engaging, purposeful, and confidence-building.
I’m very familiar with the main UK exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel, and OCR. I’ve prepared students for GCSEs and 11+ exams, making sure they understand both the content and the style of questions each board uses. I regularly refer to past papers and mark schemes to help students develop strong exam technique, time management, and confidence under pressure. The key is to make the student understand what the exam questions are asking and knowing what is likely to come up, which is gained from experience.
I always encourage my students to message me after their exams to share how they found them, and it’s always rewarding when they later get in touch with their results. Many of my students have gone on to achieve top grades and successfully secure places at their first-choice schools. For example, several of my 11+ students have gained entry into selective grammar and independent schools, while GCSE students I’ve supported have improved by two or more grades. Seeing their confidence and results grow is one of the most rewarding parts of tutoring for me.
