I am an outgoing, hardworking young man who has always valued and enjoyed education. I am passionate about many things including sport and the environment.
My enthusiasm for the helping others gain knowledge and improve their subject expertise is one of the qualities that sets me out as a great tutor. I am excited by the prospect of helping students progress within their Biology and Geography studies and ultimately allowing them to reach their true potential.
I was a student mentor at my secondary school and sixth form helping pupils with both pastoral and academic matters. The vertical tutoring system within my school allowed ample time in registration to sit with and help younger children with their studies. The subjects I have ecpericne in helping with include geography, science and English. At university I was apart of the PASS scheme which is a project which helps first year students get the basic subject knowledge required to be successful moving forward with their degree. The lessons involved a pair of older students going through any subject matter that the first years wanted extra help with. A common method we would use is going through past paper questions with the students.
Having come from a family of teachers I understand the importance of lesson planning. To be best prepared for the PASS sessions I would revisit lectures on the chosen topics and select the most important objectives, after doing so I would base my lesson around these objectives. Most often I would use powerpoint and have a selection of slides on each objective. A common pattern would be content explaining the subject, followed by some sample questions and finally exemplar answers.
