I am currently in my 3rd year studying Sustainable Development with Geography (MA) at the University of Edinburgh. I am planning to become a geography teacher once I graduate, teaching is something I passionate about and I am excited to gain some more teaching experience. I will create tailored lesson plans as I get to know my students and the ways in which they learn best, I can also offer to mark essay questions or other work outside of the lesson.

I tutored students when I in secondary school through a tutoring programme that the school ran, I tutored in english literature, geography and basic maths. This further tutoring will help me to build on my skills for my career in teaching. I have also in the past worked as a ‘Disney Princess for hire’ for children’s parties, so I understand and work well with kids and can incorporate fun things into each lesson, particularly for Primary School students, to keep them engaged during the lessons.

As I plan to tailor each lesson according to the student I can’t provide a detailed lesson plan, but I will take 10 to 20 minutes during the first lesson to learn about their learning methods and favourite work activities like think, pair, share or brainstorming and then work from there. I always ensure I know the curriculum for each student before lessons commence.

I took AQA english literature and Edexcel geography A level so I am very familiar with those exam boards. However I am willing to learn about different exam boards and how they expect students to be taught and marked. I however only took maths up to GCSE, so I would be most comfortable tutoring primary level for that subject.

The students that I tutored in secondary school all went one grade from where they were originally working, at a minimum. I plan to keep track of the students progress and grades as I go, but also remain focused on the students actual knowledge of the subject not solely grades.
