Polyglot French, Spanish & Computer Science Tutor!
Recent grades of my students: A-Level: A GCSE: A* Hello, I'm an undergraduate Computer Science student studying at the University of Nottingham. I'm a bit of a language geek so I taught myself 5 languages in my spare time. I like reading classic literature in my spare time but I'm open to new experiences. I've been a tutor for a couple of years now and when it comes to languages, I like to start by working on grammar and conjugation and then building it up with vocabulary. I have found that this helps students grasp the language more easily and encourages them to create their own sentences and form their own opinions in that language. In terms of Computer Science, I try to encourage students to tackle topics in different ways in order to simplify it for them. I also always push them to write their own code (with guidance) because that is how we all improve :)
I have been tutoring for 2 years now with different tutoring companies. I've amassed 150+ hours teaching it so far and I've helped students who once got an E at the beginning of the year, to get an A by the end. I find that many people are more capable than they think but just require different techniques to aid them.
For each lesson, I always put what we plan to do in that lesson. I normally use powerpoints to lay the foundation of what we will be learning and move on to fun activities and games to drill in the key points. I do set homework but that depends on the students and what they're struggling with.
I am most familiar with AQA exam boards but I have some experience with WJEC and EDUQAS
- For A-Level Spanish, I tutored student who once got an E to achieve an A - I tutored a GCSE French student and helped her achieve A* - Many of my students start of timid in their chosen subject, but their confidence and knowledge grows the more lessons we have. By the end, they know more and can confidently manipulate their newfound knowledge.
