Hi! My name is Emily and I am tutoring students in KS1. KS2.KS3 and GCSE Maths, as well as A level Psychology. I understand people all learn differently, so will plan lessons accordingly.
I am a Masters student in Psychology (I am predicted a Merit/Distinction) and I have completed a Bachelor's degree in psychology and achieved a 2:1 - both of these degrees required me to complete statistics and advanced statistics modules throughout and I achieved no less than a 1st in these modules. I have great grades at GCSEs - with an A* in Maths that I took a year early. You may see that my A-Level grades are not quite as good as the rest of my grades - I had a rather turbulent and traumatic year so that affected me when taking exams so I did not achieve the grades I was predicted. From my Psychology degrees and from personal experience, I understand that we all learn in different ways and I am able to tailor learning based on individual needs - I like to make learning hands-on, practical, and fun. I had a tutor myself when I was younger (I struggled with English Literature) so I understand the importance of 1-on-1 support and how much I benefited from it so if I can do the same for someone else then I would be so happy.
I have tutored multiple GCSE students in Maths both on an individual and small group basis. I started tutoring online in January 2021. I have volunteered with primary schools, and I have also volunteered in Lourdes, France with children who have special needs and requirements. I have a good level of patience and understanding and recognise the importance of having that at a young age.
I like to spend the first session going through a paper to gauge what level each student is at. I also like to ask the student if there are particular areas they feel like they struggle with or want to work on. I plan each lesson in advance, but am flexible to change lessons if areas of struggle crop up.
Very familiar Pearson Edexcel as took that board myself. Have also tutored students taking the AQA board, so have become very familiar with this board.
