I am an energetic and committed practising artist and experienced tutor specialising in oil painting pet portraits and animals.
I am a very committed and energetic practising artist specialising in oil painting but have a vast knowledge of acrylic, mixed media and other mediums. I hold a 2:1 Fine Art degree from the University for The Creative Arts, Farnham. I am a wildlife and pet portrait artist and love bright bold colours in my work. I find it difficult to get through the day without sketching ideas I have or painting something quickly.
I am a very experienced tutor, tutoring students from 5 years old to 75 years old + and have been able to obtain 11+ and 13+ art scholarships for many students. I currently tutor a student who won a national art competition with my teaching as well as a having a number of students that have had their artwork shortlisted in a regional art competition. I currently tutor 25 students across Surrey and Hampshire each week. I have previously worked at a college as their art technician installing work and assisting AS and A Level students with their work and have a vast understanding of criteria for GCSE, A Level and Degree work. I am a very patient tutor and I understand that everyone learns in a different way and I will tailor my approach to suit the individual with their art practically as well as offer art theoretical help. I believe everyone is an artist and everything creative requires practice and motivation to improve. The best way to improve your drawing/painting is by examining the world around us and really looking at the subject rather than drawing/painting what we think we see - art is 90% observing, 10% drawing/painting - this is a belief I teach all my students. I am also able to help students with art-focused personal statements, portfolio selections as well as obtaining art scholarships.
During our first lesson I will assess the skill level of the student through a drawing test and go from there. I believe drawing is the structure to all art, so I focus on building up a students drawing skill first, before moving on to other mediums such as watercolour, acrylics and oils.
I am quite familiar with the art exam boards and know what they look for and how to improve a students grade through more developmental work and annotation.
I have a proven track record with success in art, having a student win a national art competition, a student win a 'People's Choice Award' at a regional competition and also have students who have been shortlisted in a regional art competition. I have helped many students obtain 11+ and 13+ art scholarships too.
