Young professional with diverse Academic Experience across both Humanities and Science, offering tutoring for KS1, KS2, KS3 Maths as well as GCSE Science and A Level Psychology
Hello, I am Abigail, I have recently completed my degree at university. I am now work within a large automotive company in the South West. During my academic career, I studied a broad range of differing subjects at various levels thus providing me with a diverse understanding of both science and humanities. The interdisciplinary nature of my degree requiring the synthesis of understanding of statistics with theoretical models, a skill I believe to be crucial in application of knowledge especially at higher academic levels.#
While I am new to professional tutoring, I have offered such services to family and friends for some time providing me with a portfolio of experience which will prove advantageous when tutoring professionally. Furthermore, I would consider myself to be both personable and adaptable, two empirical skills required to teach successfully as you must be able to cater to the needs of those you are helping, making sure they are not only listening but truly understanding the concepts being explained. I think engagement is critical to truly grasp new concepts and I would hope the academic techniques I have learnt during my academic career will be both informative and stimulating.
The structure of lessons will be very much dependent on the individual, for some setting homework can provide a great opportunity to consolidate what has been learnt but for others this may not prove to be effective. I aim to firstly get to know each individual and then plan lessons based on how they learn and what I think will be beneficial for their learning. Before every lesson I will create lesson plans and target those areas I believe need to be explored, but it is important I understand that some degree of flexibility is required and while structure is important to meet syllabus, some topics may require more focus than others. Thus, I really aim to cater to the needs of each individual while considering the academic requirements that must be met.
From my experience each exam board do have different ways of testing individuals, the best way to understand how each differ is through familiarisation of past papers and the way in which they approach testing. Past papers and answers provide a great opportunity to both see what a board are looking for but also, how to apply successful structure to your own answers.
